James McCarthy, age 56, President of Initiatives Healthcare, Inc. is a founding member of IHI. He has extensive operational and strategic experience with the management of hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, and other medical facilities. Mr. McCarthy addresses legal, organizational and financial issues for IHI. His thirty years of experience in the health care field has ranged from analysis and planning to senior management roles. Areas of key expertise for Mr. McCarthy are in the development and implementation of physician-physician and physician-hospital joint venture strategies; developing ambulatory surgery center joint ventures domestically and internationally; and developing multi-provider group contracting arrangements.
Mr. McCarthy has had roles as the Executive Vice President of a Chicago-based health care consulting company, as Vice President and General Manager of a medical device manufacturing company in the Chicago area, and spent five years in increasingly responsible planning positions with the Medical Products Division of 3M Company.
Mr. McCarthy received his B.A. from the University of Notre Dame, his J.D. from the Loyola University School of Law, and his M.B.A. from the Keller Graduate School of Management. He is a member of various state and national organizations, including the American Health Lawyers Association, and the National Strategy Forum. He also serves on the National Advisory Council of the Keller Graduate School of Management, Chicago, Illinois.
Mr. McCarthy is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sirigen, Inc., Santa Barbara, California and is a member of the Board of Directors of Hinsdale Bank & Trust Company, Hinsdale, Illinois; Protein Polymer Technologies, Inc. (PPTI), San Diego, California; and JMAR Technologies, Inc., (JMAR), San Diego, California.
